The Charter of Health Freedom is proposed legislation designed to address the risks facing the natural health industry head-on.
Here’s how it works:
- Creates a Separate Legal Category: Natural health products and traditional medicines will have their own legal category, independent of the Food and Drugs Act. This means they won’t be subjected to pharmaceutical-style regulations that are inappropriate for natural health products.
- Establishes a Ministry of Wellness: This new ministry will replace Health Canada in regulating natural health products, while Health Canada will continue to oversee conventional medicine.
- Protects Access and Ensures Safety: The Charter empowers the Ministry of Wellness to address safety concerns, including fraud and adulteration, while protecting our right to access safe and high-quality natural health products.
- Promotes Fair Regulation: The Charter ensures that regulations are appropriate for the unique nature of natural health products, preventing unnecessary restrictions that harm consumers and businesses.
