I am a trades person, welder fitter of 27 years now.
Like a lot of you, I have contributed to the infrastructure and economy of this country, helping to build it and rebuild it everyday for many many years, taking pride in the fact that my little contribution helps make this one of the best countries in the world, or at least up until now.
I for one, have had enough of these hypocritical, illogical and just plain disturbing mandates against our individual civil rights.
Heres what I propose:
We had a co^id policy meeting at work last week, and I was pleasantly surprised at what I learned. Of around our 30 guys, easily 65-70% don’t want the poke, and are standing by it. On top of that, 3 guys that have got it, do not stand for this segregation and discrimination against their fellow Canadians. Our union rep has said, that his day consists of site visits around Southern Ontario, and of all the sites he visits, he estimates on average that 50-75% of all trades people on these sites don’t want the poke., or are against the mandates.
We build this country, and keep it running with our hands and the skills we have each critiqued in our respective trades.
I feel a united, nation wide walkout, using our skills (or the lack of which we are willing to give, to continue building and maintaining this country) will be our weapon. No voices needed.
Yes, our employers won’t be happy, and neither will our customers, gc’s, or clients,
But that is the point.
We all know that this country is extremely understaffed in the skilled trades sector, and it is only getting worse with the free hand outs our government likes to give to the lazy.
So what are they going to do, fire us all?
I know that there are union workers, non union workers, public and private sector trades, but lets put all that aside to come together as a United Trades Movement.
If you are Union and yours is actually trying to fight for your rights, contact your Rep and fill them in on this movement, if they are not fighting for you, remember, you pay dues, they work for you, so all the more reason to fight back.
I know two weeks or less of lost wages is not easy for some, but with planning and time needed to put a little aside to survive the walkout, it is nothing in comparison to the freedoms we, our familes and friends are losing more and more each day.
Talk to your co workers, lets get as many people on board with this.
We need to make a United Stand against the tyranny and injustice that is being enforced upon us.
Who’s on board and how do we get on planning this? I know I’m in.
